Wisconsin DOT warns drivers of pavement buckling due to hot weather

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin Department of Transportation is warning drivers that unusually hot weather this Memorial Day weekend could cause pavement to buckle.

Pavement buckles are most common when the weather quickly goes from cool to very hot, causing pavement to expand. This can cause concrete slabs of pavement to push against each other, and if the pressure becomes great enough the pavement can buckle.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down and eliminate distractions and watched for slowing traffic and highway crews as damaged pavement occurs.

If you come across a piece of buckled pavement you are encouraged to call 911.
