MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson celebrated Wisconsin Bike Week with his annual community bike ride. It's a statewide celebration of biking.
This year's ride went through Burnham Park, highlighting recent traffic-calming improvements and offering a look ahead at additional upgrades planned for the neighborhood.
Mayor Johnson also made an announcement.
"Nearly two years ago, I made a commitment to have 50 miles of actual protected bike lanes under development in Milwaukee by 2026," Mayor Johnson said. "Today at the bike ride, I am so thrilled and pleased to announce we have achieved that goal, well in advance by 2026."
There are now more than 51 miles of protected bike lanes built or under development in Milwaukee.
Wisconsin Bike Week runs through Monday, June 9.
