WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- In Whitefish Bay, a local church is helping the unhoused get vital resources in honor of MLK Day.
One-thousand sandwiches were made and distributed, along with personal care kits, to individuals who are homeless in Milwaukee County.
"We're just so thankful they're here," said Marissa Konpick, youth and fellowship director, Bay Shore Lutheran Church. "We have Girl Scouts, kids from the Jewish Day School. Just the fact that we're able to reach out into our community, not just with other Christians, but anyone in our community, has been so great. We think it's important to remember the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and all the work he did towards equality."
The generosity didn't end with sandwiches and care kits. There were nine different stations of giving back. They included writing letters of thanks to veterans, creating Valentine's Day cards for families dealing with serious medical complications, and gathering and donating mittens and hats for people who are homeless.
