WEST MILWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- West Milwaukee police officers were seen on the roof of a Dunkin' shop Thursday morning, Aug. 15, but there was no emergency, stakeout or special emergency to blame.

The rooftop presence was a fundraiser for Special Olympics Wisconsin, Cop on a Rooftop, where officers take to the rooftops of participating Dunkin' locations to raise money.

Those who made a donation received a coupon for a free donut or coffee and had the opportunity to chat with local law enforcement.

"I think it's a good thing," said Detective Skyler Feuerstein of the West Milwaukee Police Department. "A lot of times there's some negative connotation with law enforcement. I think getting out in the community and fundraising for something like this kinda gives us a positive note, which we always like to have."

This year marks the 12th anniversary of Cop on a Rooftop. Over its first decade, the event raised over $547,000 for Special Olympics Wisconsin.

Friday's effort raised over $60,000 in additional money, according to officials, meaning that Cop in a Rooftop has now raised over $607,000 to date for Special Olympics Wisconsin.
