West Bend dog groomer under investigation for mistreating animals
CBS 58 WEST BEND, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A dog groomer in West Bend is now under investigation for mistreating animals.
Video obtained by CBS 58 shows the moment the owner of Joys of Grooming hits and yanks on a dog while blow drying her.
“How do you have the heart or anything in your soul to want to be mean to these dogs," said Dyla Heimerl, who lives in West Bend and had taken her dog to the location multiple times. "It just, it blows my mind."
The footage is causing an uproar from West Bend residents, especially from those like who have taken their pets to the location.
“Once I saw that video, if you are able to do that with one little dog, there is absolutely no telling how often that’s happened or what you are able and willing to do with any other dog," said Heimerl. "I’m sick to my stomach about it, it makes me ill. I can’t, I don’t understand."
The West Bend Police Department says they’ve seen the video and are actively investigating. The owner could face charges as the case is being referred to the District Attorney's Office.
“I wasn’t shocked," said Alyssa Thelen, who lives in West Bend. "I’m glad that the person had the courage to video it, so that there is some sort of proof now. I’ve heard many stories from other people that nothing could be done because there was no actual tangible proof."
Thelen says she took her dog Myles there for more than a year and her pup would always come back well groomed, but with a strained bark and cough. When she recommended the place to a family member and heard their review, she said she never went back.
“She started telling her about how much they hate our dog," said Thelen. "That when they have him in the neck harness that he tries to jump off the table and if he is stupid enough to hang himself, they just let him."
CBS 58 walked into Joys of Grooming and spoke to the owner. We were told she had no comment and were asked to leave.
“She needs to be held accountable," said Heimerl. "She should say sorry. I think she should publicly apologize to this woman, to what she did to her dog, and she needs to be shut down. There’s no space in this world for that what’s so ever."
