West Allis-West Milwaukee schools to suspend students caught filming fights, sharing online
MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- In West Allis-West Milwaukee (WAWM) schools, administrators are cracking down on what could be fueling an uptick in fights this year.
As of April 3, students caught recording a fight on their cellphone or any other device and sharing or posting it to social media will be suspended.
The school district says 26 students have been removed from their schools for being involved in major fights this year, and 183 citations have been issued to students for violations of law on school grounds at WAWM secondary schools.
WAWM also says effective April 17-June 1, 2023, cellphones will not be permitted to be used by intermediate and high school students during the regular school day.
The wording of the new policy allows school officials to determine whether that suspension would be an automatic two-days in-school suspension, or whether the student could be removed from school long-term.
