BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) --Brookfield police are investigating after a 39-year-old Black man was found dead last week, hanging from a tree on a golf course.

Loved ones identified the victim as Torrance, or Tory, Medley.

"A lot of people are uneasy, I don't want them to be uneasy, I'm uneasy," said Shena Medley, Tory's older sister. "Who would've thought I would wake up and this is what you hear, and this is what you live?"

Medley, who lives in Hawaii, got the call last week notifying her about her brother's death, after she'd just seen him in-person in October.

"He had just the kindest, sweetest spirit," Medley said, noting that Tory was a gentle soul. "He loved his family, he loved us and we loved him."

Brookfield Police Chief Christopher Garcia said the official cause of death has not yet been ruled as they investigate, but that they consider his death to be an "apparent suicide."

"He did struggle with some mental health challenges," Medley said.

But even with those challenges, she added there weren't any indications he was suicidal, and police said they have not found a suicide note.

"A body just doesn't just end up in a tree on a golf course happen stance and in today's world, someone saw something or someone's camera saw something," Medley said.

Another question that still remains? According to Medley, Tory lived in downtown Milwaukee and didn't have a car.

"The only way he can get somewhere is either a ride or the bus system and he knew the bus system, but the thing is, why out there?" Medley said.

Now they're asking for prayers and support as they wait for updates from officials, which they hope will come next week.

"I'm not saying it's this, I'm not saying it's that," Medley said. "We deserve as a family, to know what happened to him. The community deserves to know what happened to him."

Police said they are reviewing surveillance footage.

CBS 58 is following the story and will bring the resolution when we learn of it.

"Yes, he was my brother, but he was also part of this community," Medley said. "I think it's really important that as a community, we look out for one another."
