Riverwest 24 wraps up another year of community cycling in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — The 19th annual Riverwest 24 is winding down after bringing thousands of cyclists together for 24 hours of riding through Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood.

The volunteer-run event began at 7 p.m. Friday, with participants riding a multi-mile loop through the neighborhood until the event concludes at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Unlike many large community events, organizers say Riverwest 24 doesn't rely on corporate sponsorships. Instead, its focus is on bringing neighbors together through family-friendly cycling and community involvement.

Participants told CBS 58 the event is an opportunity to stay active while celebrating the neighborhood's unique sense of community.

"The fact that all the neighbors get here together. And we're not here to sell something. We're not here to raise money for something," said Joe Finney, who oversees Checkpoint 2. "We're here to just be like we love this neighborhood, we love getting together and having fun."

Riverwest 24 concludes Saturday at 7 p.m.
