Wausau: Police chase leads to fiery crash, driver seriously injured
WAUSAU, Wis. (CBS 58) --- Wausau police initiated a traffic stop near Grand Avenue and Sturgeon Eddy Road around 1 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27.
Officials say the driver attempted to flee from police and a short vehicle pursuit followed. The car crashed and caught fire near Memorial Park, according to Wausau police.
Officers on scene were able to extinguish the fire.
The 22-year-old driver sustained significant injuries and required extraction by Wausau Fire Department staff.
The driver was transported to the hospital for his injuries.
Police say due to the driver's injuries, the Wisconsin State Patrol was requested to conduct the accident and criminal investigation.
