Waukesha residents ready for relief after a week of storms and rain

CBS 58

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58)--  With the Fox River reaching 2.5 feet above crest on Friday, plus another night of storms and tornado sirens, the people who live and work in the area are ready for some relief.

While flood waters are receding, roads along the river still have sitting water and debris. Many who have lived in the area say it will go in the books with other historic storm events-- like the 1963 and 2008.

"For all the people who have houses and businesses along here. I feel sorry for them," said Steve Chapman. "This building was the old Sears back in the 60s and they had sandbags all along here to prevent the water from going into it."

As of Saturday morning, the riverwalk was still under water and benches were fully submerged. It will take some time for the water to go down. But residents are just happy this week is almost behind them.

"It's been a long week. Lots of different worries and struggles and alarms for people," said Rebecca Lloyd.

People stopped by to snap pictures and see just how high the Fox River is. Relieved that everyone is safe.

"I think people are curious people want to be able to know what's going on and share that with each other," said Lloyd.
