Waukesha Fire Department Rescues Family's Pets from Fire

Waukesha Fire Department rescued several family pets from a house fire at 1026 Genesee Street on Tuesday at 12:50 PM, according to a press release from Waukesha Fire Department .

On arrival fire crews found a one and a half story single family residence with smoke ventilating from the first and second floors. 

It was unknown if residents were home at the time. 

Fire crews quickly found and extinguished the fire in the area of the first floor kitchen, no occupants were found, however multiple pets were found and removed (three cats, six dogs/four deceased, two ferrets/one deceased). 

HAWS was contacted and picked up the animals.  The home owners arrived on scene and were able to find alternate housing.  The fire is under investigation jointly by the fire and police departments.  Estimated damage is $50,000.  No fire fighter injuries were reported.
