Waukesha County Parks system celebrates Earth Day with free all day event

The CBS 58 News at 4 p.m. give special attention to events that are geared towards the family and are affordable if not free.

On Monday CBS 58 Anchor/Reporter Michele McCormack chatted with Ginny Bocek of the Waukesha County Parks System.

This Saturday the Parks System is hosting an all days event starting at 9 a.m. at the Retzer Nature Center on Madison Street in the City of Waukesha.

Staff will be on hand for a day of children's activities, hikes, a concert by Tom Pease, campfire with S'mores and food.

It is free and open to the public. The twilight tour is very special in that it gives folks a different perspective of our natural spaces as the light begins to fade casting unique shadows and color patterns than what you're used to seeing during the day.

Bocek says they've found the kids like the activities that allow them to make crafts, from kits to bird feeders, out of recycled materials.

She says it's not about lecturing families, rather giving them information on how they can preserve natural spaces and protect the environment in a fun setting that allows everyone to feel involved and part of a solution to the challenges of protecting our parks.
