Waukesha County Historical Society honors Les Paul with monthlong celebration
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- June 9 marks a special anniversary in Waukesha. On this date in 1915, Lester William Polsfuss was born -- better known to the world as Les Paul.
Paul invented the solid-body electric guitar and pioneered multi-track recording techniques -- changes that reverberate through popular music today.
"We're telling his story through the exhibits, we're telling his story through getting materials out to schools," said Nicki Ciurro, executive director of the Waukesha County Historical Society.
The historical society is part of a monthlong celebration of Les Paul, including an event where you can hear firsthand stories about the man behind the music.
Lunch and Learn: Behind the Scenes with Les Paul goes from 11:30-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10.
"Sue Baker, who got to know Les Paul the last 10 years of his life, she went up to New Jersey and met him, talked with him and worked with him again in those last 10 years of his life," said Ciurro. "She will be talking at our Lunch and Learn."
Tickets are available at the door. Admission is $10, but Ciurro tells us the lunch is sold out. You'll have to "brown bag it" if you want to eat while learning more about Les Paul.
