Water Street to close for paving project

Milwaukee's Department of Public Works will start a high impact paving project on North Water Street from East Kilbourn Avenue to North Van Buren Street on Monday.

The first phase of the project will start on Monday, July 24. The project will start on and close the east side of North Water Street north of East Kilbourn Avenue to East Knapp Street (northbound lanes). The west side of North Water Street (southbound lanes) will remain open until approximately 9:00 AM and will then close shortly thereafter to traffic.

In phase two starting Tuesday, July 25. Both sides of North Water Street from North Van Buren to North Pleasant streets will be closed to traffic.

Phase three starts Wednesday, July 26. Both sides of North Water Street from North Pleasant to East Knapp streets will be closed to traffic.

Traffic will be re-routed during all phases of the project, including the Milwaukee County Transit System’s Green Line and the #33, #57, and #143 Flyer bus routes.

The traveling public is advised to watch for the detours and add extra travel time when entering and leaving this neighborhood.
