MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Washington High School showed off its newly renovated athletic field with a ribbon-cutting Friday, May 26.
Upgrades include a new synthetic turf field and a rebuilt track.
The school says the athletic field represents an investment in the physical wellbeing and academic success of the school's students and the surrounding community.
"These young people that attend Washington High School and even outside groups can use this field for practice, athletics, for their improved health," said Mabel Lamb, executive director of Sherman Park Community Association.
From the planning stages to Friday's ribbon-cutting, the project took about seven years to complete.
That includes the time it took to raise more than $800,000 for renovations.
