Wanted man accused of shooting girlfriend at least 14 times in front of kids arrested in Waukesha

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A man wanted for attempted murder after allegedly shooting his girlfriend at least 14 times in front of their children was arrested Tuesday, March 21.

Authorities say Askia Strong was arrested without incident at a relative's house in Waukesha and will be turned over to police in Milwaukee County.

Strong had been on the run after allegedly shooting Nikeya Shumake in front of their three children.

The incident was caught on surveillance footage. It shows Strong chase Shumake out of her minivan after an argument and shoot her until she falls to the ground. He continues shooting until her 12-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son get out of the car to stop him.

In an interview, Shumake told us she had broken up with Strong days before the shooting.

She said her mission is to help other women in abusive relationships get on their feet and out before it's too late.
