We Energies introduces new safe digging campaign star 'Spartacus'

Updated: 3:25 p.m. on August 11, 2020

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Dozens of dogs entered, and nearly 12,000 people voted for We Energies' new "ambassadog."

We're happy to report a selection has been made.

Meet Spartacus! He's a 6-year-old, 6-pound Pomeranian from Caledonia.

He may be little, but he now has the huge responsibility of reminding people to call 811 at least three days before digging.

Whether you're planting a garden or installing a fence, you could be putting yourself in danger if you strike an underground natural gas line or electrical cable.

Keep an eye out for Spartacus, as he will be part of an upcoming ad campaign.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Voting is underway for the next star of We Energies' safe digging campaign.

We Energies says more than 60 customers submitted pictures of their pups, and ten finalists have been chosen to help promote an important safety message -- to call 811 at least three days before you dig.

Now, it's up to you to vote for the winner.

You can vote as many times as you'd like between now and Wednesday, August 5.

The new "ambassadog" will be revealed on Tuesday, August 11 -- 811 day.

"Whether you're planting a garden or installing a fence, you could be putting yourself in danger if you strike an underground natural line or electrical cable," We Energies says. "Contact 811 at least three days before you dig to have the location of buried utility lines marked, and to keep you and your family safe."
