Voters rally against bill that would limit hours on early voting

Early voting now under way in Milwaukee for the 2014 spring elections and Mayor Tom Barrett is using the occasion to speak out against Republican efforts to limit early voting.

Dozens showed up near city hall Monday morning to ask state leaders to vote against Senate Bill 324.

The bill would restrict early voting by bringing down the number of voting hours to 45 hours per week.

It would prohibit voting in-person by absentee ballots on the weekends. The bill has already passed in the senate and is now in the assembly.

Co-author of the bill State Senator Glenn Gorthman said he helped draft the bill in an effort to make voting hours the same in every city. Several small towns in Wisconsin don't have early voting on the weekends.
