MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A group of volunteers are working to lower gun violence in Milwaukee. It’s called the 414Life program.
Volunteers meet and then canvass in a neighborhood, providing residents safety resources.
The program, which is led by the Medical College of Wisconsin, focuses on raising awareness about issues affecting Milwaukee, such as gun violence. Volunteers say one of the first steps is making sure everyone has access to community support.
Program director for 414Life Lynn Lewis says she wants Milwaukee to be a safe city and says that effort begins at the grassroots level.
“We need the city to pause, to heal, to reach out. Right? Stop being reactionary and think about reaching out to those individuals that are here to support the traumas, right? To de-escalate violence,” said Lewis.
Gunlocks were also available at the event and given to people, no questions asked.
