Thirty-eight-year-old Ronnell Shaw, Jr. is accused of shooting two people at the hospital on March 2.
According to the criminal complaint, responding officers located a man -later identified as Shaw- who matched the description of a reported active shooter. Police said they found him standing next to a podium near a victim and ordered him to the ground. Officers asked Shaw where the firearm was, and he allegedly motioned to a nearby podium where a handgun was located.
During his arrest, the complaint says Shaw made statements that "there was a person in the bathroom with a gun" and "they were trying to rob the hospital security officers."
Prosecutors say security video capturing the shooting shows Shaw reach up with a firearm in his right hand, point it directly at one of the victims, and fire two times before turning to his right and firing once more. The complaint goes on to say three fired casings located at the scene were determined to have been fired by the handgun recovered by officers.
One of the victims-identified as Christopher Robinson Jr.- remains on life support and is not expected to survive, according to court documents. A second victim suffered a graze wound and was treated.
Investigators say when questioned, Shaw claimed he believed one of the victims may have had a gun and believed that he was talking about him, but acknowledged the victim never threatened or spoke to him. He reportedly stated, "I shot him. I don't know his name."
Shaw is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first degree recklessly endangering safety, and possession of a firearm as a felon.
