MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- It wasn't your average day at the Deer District Farmers Market.

"The kids are taking over today," said Latoya Bates, Deer District Market Manager.

Sunday kids were in charge, showing off their creativity and business savvy one booth at a time.

"I make handmade pottery and print making," said Lyla Johnson, a young entrepreneur.

"We are selling flowers that we made handmade with kids," said Nariah Eubanks, a young entrepreneur. "We’ve been growing them from the beginning of the summer."

Kids Takeover at Deer District allowed kids and teens to show off their craft.

"I've never done an outdoor market before and so this is such a cool opportunity to be able to as a young person just experience and see if this is the kind of environment is right for me in my work," said Johnson.

Giving them a taste of what it takes to run a business.

"It’s a joyful feeling to be running a booth and telling people how much the price is and when they ask me, how did I grow these and how long I’ve been working for them," said Eubanks.

17-year-old, Michael Tipton-Evans, says it's an event giving him a start at his dream.

"This is what I want to do like as my job in real life," said Evans. "Honestly, if I could, I would love to sell clothes for the rest of my life."

Allowing him to connect with his community about his passion on another level.

"I normally rely on online social media and advertising stuff like that, but I’m actually happy to finally get like outside and share my clothes," said Evans. "One on one interactions mean more to me than online.”

Selling flowers, clothes, art and other handmade goods, these kids made sure to put their best foot forward.

"A lot of us are looking to be young entrepreneurs and kind of looking at what path is right for us, so these kinds of events are super important for our community to kind of bring out the new generations of makers and thinkers and dreamers," said Johnson.

Grateful for a new experience and looking forward to the future.

"Look what I’ve done it’s big," said Eubanks. "I want to do business, I want to go to college for business."
