Virus suspends cat adoptions at Racine's Wisconsin Humane Society

MILWAUKEE -- Cat adoptions at Racine's Wisconsin Humane Society are suspended for two weeks because of a deadly viral outbreak.

FPV, a virus only spread between cats, caused four cats at the Racine campus to die. For the next 14 days vets are testing the cats to make sure FPV doesn't spread.

The virus is passed is saliva, feces, and urine. More than 90% of cats with the virus die. But experts say your house cat is fine if it doesn't go outside and mingle with strange cats or already has the vaccine.

Most of the symptoms to look for are loss of appetite, vomiting, dehydration, respiratory infections, and diarrhea.
