MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Shocking video of a desperate and dangerous police chase disrupts a Milwaukee neighborhood.

Cellphone video shows a driver driving on a sidewalk and then back onto the street.

Milwaukee police say the car was stolen. In the video, you can see the driver crossing from one sidewalk to another as police drive on the street to try to catch him.

Neighbors describe the moment they saw someone driving a white car on the sidewalk.

It happened near Glendale and 29th Street.

"I'm like are you serious?" said a neighbor.  "He was psst, like that. It just looked like something went past your eye real quick, like a fly or something."

Milwaukee police say they noticed a car driving recklessly near N. 27th Street and W. Atkinson on Thursday, April 8, a little after 5 p.m.

They tried to stop the driver. He refused, and that's when a pursuit started.

Officers terminated the chase after losing sight of the car.

Later in the day, police found the car on the 4800 block of N. 36th Street.

"This is another situation when people are making decisions behind the wheel that puts everyone's lives at risk," said Reggie Moore, director of Milwaukee's Office of Violence Prevention.

He says reckless driving is a major concern for residents in the city.

"Anybody out here thinking that it's cool to steal somebody else's property, joy ride at 80 miles per hour on a sidewalk where a child could be walking outside, a grandmother could be walking outside, or anybody -- and be injured or killed, it's not worth it."

If you have any information, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS.
