UWM baseball head coach Scott Doffek announces retirement after 29 years

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- After nearly 30 years with the program, UWM baseball head coach Scott Doffek has announced his retirement.

Doffek finished with close to 800 wins with the program in his 29-year tenure with the team.

He has had 24 Panthers drafted to the MLB, with the most recent being AJ Blubaugh, who was selected by the Houston Astros in the seventh round (223rd overall) of the 2022 draft.

In addition, Doffek also coached former Milwaukee Panther Daulton Varsho, who currently plays for the Toronto Blue Jays -- and also finished as a contender for the 2022 MLB Gold Glove Award.

Doffek was also named the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association College Coach of the Year in 2013 and is a two-time Horizon League Coach of the Year.

He was the Panthers assistant coach for 12 seasons before being promoted to head coach for 17 seasons.

Doffek led the Panthers to 785 total victories, which also includes a school record of 438 as their head coach.

In addition, Doffek led UWM to four NCAA Tournament appearances and three regular season conference championships. One of those tournament appearances included the Panthers upsetting No. 1 Rice in 1999.

Panthers associate head coach Shaun Wegner will serve as the team's interim head coach until a new one is announced.
