UW Health: 50% of Wisconsin residents fully vaccinated

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Local doctors say it is a race to get Wisconsin residents vaccinated, as cases of the delta variant are spiking across the country, including Wisconsin.

"The variants are seeming to pull ahead a little at this point in the spread of the delta," UW Health Dr. William Hartman said. "We really have to get a head of that and the best way to get ahead of that is to vaccinate as many people as quickly as we can."

Wisconsin is seeing new COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations at a rate we haven't seen since early February. That was before the vaccine was made available to the general public.

CDC data shows 99.999% of fully vaccinated Americans have not had a deadly COVID-19 breakthrough case.
