USA Triathlon to Cause Road Closures in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE - Road closures in the downtown lakefront area, and extending south over the Hoan Bridge/I-794 to S. Lake Drive, through St. Francis and Cudahy as far as College Avenue, will take effect this Saturday and Sunday mornings August 8-9 to accommodate the 2015 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships. 

Action is set to begin at 7:30am on both days. All races start at Discovery World with the swim portion, followed by the bike portion starting at the intersection of Lincoln Memorial drive and E. Michigan. The run portion of the event will primarily take place within Veterans Park on the Oak Leaf Trail.

On Saturday, August 8, the Olympic-Distance National Championships features a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run. The Sprint National Championships on Sunday, August 9 is a non-drafting, sprint distance event (750 m Swim, 20 km Bike, 5 km Run). 

·    Number of Participants: Approximately 5,000 registered athletes for Saturday and Sunday, and 400 volunteers each day.
·    Road restrictions: Begin as early as 5:30 a.m. on race mornings. 
·    Race Time: Olympic-Distance Nationals and Sprint Nationals will begin at 7:30am both mornings at Discovery World. The Olympic-Distance on Saturday will be completed by 1:30pm and the Sprint on Sunday will be completed by 12:00pm.
