US Secretary of Education to visit Madison, highlighting high school career pathways

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona is set to visit Madison with Rep. Mark Pocan on Thursday, Sept. 7 to showcase the impact of high school career pathways programs on student success.

Part of the “Back to School Bus Tour 2023: Raise the Bar” initiative, the visit is scheduled to focus on expanding access to high-wage, high-demand pathways and skills-based learning opportunities, including registered apprenticeships and community college programs.

A press release from the Department of Education notes that the trip emphasizes sectors like advanced manufacturing, clean energy, infrastructure and cybersecurity.

This event comes after the department’s Unlocking Pathways Summit series, highlighting workforce priorities and opportunities growing due to recent federal investments.

The exact time and location of the Sept. 7 event has not yet been released, but is set to be announced on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
