UPS holding hiring events in Milwaukee on October 19

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- UPS is getting ready for the busy holiday season by holding a one-day hiring blitz with more than 170 hiring fairs happening across the country on October 19. 

Two of hiring events will be happening in the greater Milwaukee area on the date the company is calling "UPS Brown Friday." One will happen in Oak Creek, the other in Elm Grove. 

UPS plans to sign up nearly 40,000 new employees on October 19 and will be making job offers on the spot. Locally, UPS is still hiring for more than 400 positions, including driver helpers, package handlers, and seasonal drivers. 

The company says seasonal positions are usually a foot in the door to a full-time position and for some, lead to a career. Over the last three years, 35% of people hired for seasonal package handler jobs were later hired in a permanent role after the holidays. 

The local hiring fairs will be happening at the following locations on Friday, October 19:

• 6800 S. 6th St, Oak Creek, WI 53154
• 12400 W. Bluemound Rd, Elm Grove, WI 53122
