UPDATE: West Allis Homicide Victim Identified

UPDATE 6:45 AM - Yesterday morning, West Allis Police Department Dispatch Center received a transferred 911 call regarding a male suspect forcibly entering two apartment of an apartment building in the 2300 block of S 92nd Street.  Dispatched officers arrived on-scene, secured the area and during their search of the building, found a male victim with a gunshot wound which he sadly succumbed to after attempted treatment by the West Allis Police & Fire Departments.  The victim of the homicide has been identified as Gabriel Sanchez, a 42-year-old male from West Allis.

WAPD officers searched the apartment and no other victims not the suspect were located.

During the course of the investigation, the West Allis Police Department learned that a person of interest in the shooting was associated with Epikos Church, located in the 6200 block of W Greenfield Avenue.  The WAPD received information indicating the person of interest had made threatening statements regarding a member of the church.  West Allis officers responded to the church to provide information to church officials and ensure the safety of church members.  No criminal activity occurred at Epikos Church.

During the course of the investigation, the West Allis Police Department also sent information to law enforcement agencies regarding the persons of interest in this shooting.

Yesterday afternoon, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol, Dane County Sheriff’s Office, the Lodi Police Department and the Department of Natural Resources were involved in a vehicle pursuit on eastbound I-94 in Columbia and Dane Counties.  This pursuit ended with law enforcement firing shots at one of the suspects and ultimately the apprehension of three suspects who were suspected o being involved in a drive-by shooting of another vehicle in Sauk County.  Preliminary investigation revealed the individual involved in the Sauk County drive-by shooting is the person responsible for the homicide that occurred in West Allis.

This continues to be a active and ongoing investigation.

UPDATE 10:00 p.m. - West Allis police are releasing more details on this case. They are reporting that a Sunday afternoon pursuit that ended with police firing shots at a suspect in Sauk County on the freeway is likely the suspect wanted in the West Allis homicide from Sunday morning.

UPDATE 1:34 p.m. - West Allis police responded to reports of a burglary in progress this morning around 6:53 a.m in an apartment building on the 2300 block of S. 92nd Street. Once on scene, they found one deceased adult male. The suspect, who is affiliated with the apartment building, fled the scene. West Allis Police continues their search.

WEST ALLIS - The West Allis Police Department received a report of shots fired in a building in the 2300 block of S. 92nd street a little before 7 a.m. this morning.

Officers and detectives are currently on scene and investigating.

This is currently and active and on-going investigation. Therefore, the houses and areas surrounding the residence have been cordoned off.

The Medical Examiner has confirmed that they have been called out to the scene.
