UPDATE: Three People Shot at Community Center in Racine
UPDATE: Police are still searching for the person that shot three people in Racine Friday night.
A witness at the party shared cell phone video with CBS 58. The video shows the aftermath of the shooting. People are crying, hugging, and police are tending to a person on the floor in the background. A different witness at the party said a prior grievance sparked a fight, and before police arrived someone pulled out a gun. The latter witness says everyone ran outside, and as he did he heard three shots fired.
Most days, the Bray Center is a place kids and teens can go after school, study, and play basketball.
"We live in a violent society if the kids didn't have the center, they wouldn't have any place to go," said Bray Center Executive Director Jameel Ghuari.
Ghuari says he doesn't know much about the Friday night shooting. A group rented out the center for a party.
The police department says a man and woman in their 20s and a 16-year-old girl were shot and taken to the hospital. The 16-year-old later flown to the Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. The victims are expected to recover, and Ghuari says he's thankful for that.
Going forward, the Bray Center will treat groups that rent the center differently. Ghuari says the board will sit down and decide what will change, but he says metal detectors were used in the past and may be again.
"Anytime something like this happens you have to reevaluate who you're doing and how you're doing it, and that's what we'll do," said Ghuari.
