United Way of Greater Milwaukee receives $5 million grant from Jeff Bezos to address family homelessness
United Way Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County received a $5 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund to expand support for families experiencing homelessness, the organization announced Monday, Dec. 1.
The grant will serve families in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties over the next five years, with the goal of ensuring no child sleeps outside.
United Way plans to achieve a functional zero level of families in emergency shelter by offering centralized connection to housing resources, flexible financial assistance and wraparound support.
"We are so grateful to the Day 1 Families Fund for this generous grant," said Amy Lindner, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. "This grant will provide continued support to our Safe & Stable Homes initiative for years to come."
The organization was part of 32 groups across the U.S. receiving a total of $102.5 million from Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos through the Day 1 Families Fund.
