‘We’re hanging in there’: Summerfest adjusting to the heat
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Seems like summer break just started. But in about six weeks, most Milwaukee kids will be heading back to school.
And one hometown non-profit is getting families ready now.
UMOS hosted its annual back to school fair today, on July 16, and gave away nearly 1,500 backpacks filled with school supplies.
And we saw a line going down the block at UMOS' southside headquarters.
"It's a passion to me. My goal is to make sure in this couple of years with the COVID, it's been very difficult for families and the community. And sometimes they can't afford it. I mean, if you have five, six kids, it's really hard to purchase," said Director of Corporate & Community Events at UMOS Carmen Lerma.
Our partners, Telemundo Wisconsin, also there today to pass out special backpacks.
And families could get haircuts, enjoy live music and even meet the Admirals mascot, Roscoe.
