NOW: Two Wisconsin Firefighters among those honored at National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service

EMMITSBURG, MARYLAND, (CBS 58) -- Two Wisconsin firefighters were among the 140 firefighters honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on Sun. May 4.

The service took place in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Firefighter Dewin Berg of the North Prairie Fire Department and Assistant Chief Robert Stevens of the Fremont-Wolf River Fire Department died from complications of COVID-19 in 2021 and 2022.

Fire Service and Government leaders addressed the thousands of people who showed up to honor and remember the 70 firefighters who died in previous years and the 70 who died in the line of duty in 2024.

"The lives we honor today will be remembered not just today, but always," said Board Chair Troy Markel. "We will speak their names. We will tell their stories. We will ensure their legacy of service, courage and dedication lives on in the generations to come."

And tonight, Milwaukee's Hoan Bridge is lit up red to honor two other Wisconsin firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty last year.

The two firefighters being memorialized are firefighter Doran Kemp of the Milwaukee Fire Department and active-duty Engineer and Paramedic Tyler Kreiter of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.
