Two local programs offer support to caregivers

SOUTHEASTERN WISCONSIN (CBS 58) – There are more than 34 million family caregivers across the nation. Experts say the average caregiver will spend around $7,000 to care for a loved one.

The Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin tells us there are two programs that offer respite for people taking care of the sick or elderly.

“It’s a hard disease,” Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin program director Wendy Betley said. “It’s 24/7. People need help, we worry about caregivers.”

Two programs are available, but you must meet certain criteria to be eligible. More information on the Alzheimer’s Family and Caregiver Support Program and the National Family Caregiver Support is available online.
