Two dead after Harley Davidson motorcycle crashes into sedan while accelerating to beat the light, authorities say

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two people are dead after a motorcycle crashed into a vehicle in Kenosha.

It happened around 6:41 p.m. at the intersection of Highway H (88th Avenue) and Highway S (38th Street) on September 1.

The investigation from the Sheriff's Department revealed that a 2017 Chevrolet sedan was traveling south on Highway H. The sedan was in the intersection at Highway S with the intent of turning left (east). At the same time, a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling north on Highway H with two occupants.

According to witnesses, the motorcycle accelerated to 'beat the light' as it turned red and struck the sedan in the intersection.

Both of the occupants, who were not wearing helmets, were ejected from the motorcycle, authorities say.

The motorcycle operator was taken to a local hospital via Flight for Life. He later died as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The female passenger was taken to a local hospital where she also died from the injuries she sustained.

They have been identified as 33-year-old Joseph Schiavi of Kenosha and 46-year-old Dawn Olson of Kenosha.

No injuries were reported to the occupants of the sedan.
