MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A car with five people inside, including three children, crashes after the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said it swerved to avoid hitting a wrong-way driver.
The Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a call about a wrong way driver going southbound in the northbound lanes of I-41/US-45 at Good Hope Road. After that call, a crash was reported at I-41 at W. Capitol Drive.
Investigators say a vehicle traveling northbound swerved to avoid the wrong-way vehicle, veered to the right, crossed all lanes of traffic, and hit the right GM barrier wall and then the median traffic barrier head-on.
Paramedics treated two adults and three kids that were in the vehicle. All were conscious and breathing and two fo the children were taken to Children's Hospital for pain in their arms, legs, and head.
The Sheriff's Office says the wrong way driver was last seen headed south at W. Burleigh Avenue and was not found. STOC video does not show where the vehicle exited the freeway or if it corrected itself.
Two lanes of traffic were closed for about an hour to clear the scene.
