PEWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) - Trump supporters gathered at a drive-in watch party Tuesday night, Sept. 29, to see the president square off in the first debate.
“This is exciting,” said Darlene Johnson, who wanted to watch the debate at a safe social distance with other supporters. “Like-minded people, we all want to watch the debate together,” she said.
“I’ve never seen one in public before, I watch them in my living room and it’s not as fun,” said Christopher Gioffre.
More than a hundred people filled the parking lot to watch on a large screen at the front, to see how the president would do face-to-face with Joe Biden.
“I think the president is going to be the president, he’s going to say what he wants to say, just like people like or don’t like the tweets, they might like or don’t like what he said,” said Johnson.
Most polls show there are very few undecided voters in the state of Wisconsin, but debates can still affect the outcome. “Debates are debates, but I think the election itself is the most important election we’ve ever had,” said Gioffre.
The debate was a slug-fest, with candidates trading shots all night. It was something this crowd liked to see.
“The president looked strong, he spoke his mind, and he spoke every chance he got,” said Gioffre, “and anything that Biden said he had something to say about it, and that’s all we can ask at this point.”
