Trump announces nearly $18M in emergency aid for Wisconsin in social media post

CBS 58

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- In a social media post Wednesday, Oct. 7, President Donald Trump said he had just spoken with Republican candidate for governor Tom Tiffany, and that he'll be approving a near-$18 million for storm and tornado damage in Wisconsin.

The post, shared on Trump's Truth Social platform, reiterated the president's endorsement of Tiffany, and said in part:

"The people are tough and smart, and will come back stronger than ever -- 18 Million Dollars should help, A LOT."

Governor Tony Evers responded to Trump's claims online, saying in part, "Wisconsinites will believe it when we see it," and accusing the president and congressman of playing politics with emergency aid.

Tiffany also responded to the president's announcement, saying:

“Securing federal aid for the severe storms that devastated communities across Wisconsin, particularly in the Fox Valley, has been a top priority of mine. I have been in regular contact with the administration, and today, President Trump called to let me know that roughly $18 million in aid for Wisconsin has been approved. I appreciate the administration responding to Wisconsin’s needs. Wisconsin is strong, our people are resilient, and I will work with anyone to make sure our communities have everything they need to recover and rebuild."
