True Cinderella story: Harrison Ott of Brookfield makes US Open field
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Like Caddyshack? Who doesn't love a true Cinderella story? At this year's U.S. Open? One is Harrison Ott. The Marquette University High School grad who grew up in Brookfield, beat Rickie Fowler and Max Homa among others in a qualifier to make the major.
"It's easy to be motivated when you're seeing the fruits of it, which is fun," Harrison Ott told CBS58 Sports Director Lance Allan. "But yeah, it's those times when you're not seeing the fruits of your labor that make it harder to grind. And you know, you just wait for stuff like this. So it's really cool, really rewarding. And I'm excited for next week."
The USGA web site lists him from Franklin, Tennessee, his current home. But that may change.
"A little joke I was making today too actually," Ott says. "I bet I've gotten between 8 and 12 texts of people like, you gotta get your USGA location back to Brookfield. So that was cool. I mean. It's so Wisconsin, right? Like I always told, I had a bunch of friends come up and go to Packer games or Bucks games with me. And they all said the same thing like, you guys are the nicest sports fans and the most educated sports fans I've ever been a part of. And that's what's so cool it's like, we're people that love our own. It's really cool and special. And yeah, Smallwaukee couldn't describe it better."
