OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- As technology develops in the modern age, the use of hazardous materials in industrial workplaces has become far more common.

That can leave a lot of workers susceptible to radiation, especially in an emergency situation.

The Wisconsin Community Reception Center (CRC) hosted a training session Thursday, Nov. 13, teaching a group of trainees how to properly react in the event of a radioactive emergency.

Jamie Penza, co-lead for the Wisconsin CRC, said, "How to set up a community reception center for population monitoring during a radiological incident, as I said, there's no heightened risk, it's just a way for us to get together and do some additional training and expand our partnerships."

More than 130 attendees were brought in from various safety fields for safety demonstrations.

Participants learned how to safely decontaminate after exposure, how to use tools to detect radiation and more.
