Tomitka Stewart homicide suspect in court, bond set for $1 million

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The man charged with killing Tomitka Stewart, a Milwaukee mother of 10, was in court on Sunday, May 12. 

41-year-old Jerrod Stewart is charged with first degree reckless homicide and felony bail jumping. 

His cash bond was set at $1 million dollars. 

Police say he had been released from his custody in connection to a previous felony domestic violence charge.

He was accused of assaulting the victim in January. 

Police say they have video from the day Tomitka went missing, showing who they believe is the suspect getting into the passenger seat of a parked car. 

Tomitka Stewart was later found dead in that car, with 49 stab wounds and a head injury. 

Court documents show he's due back for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, May 22.
