MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Fire officials tell CBS 58 News the Furniture Depot near 25th and Lincoln is a total loss.
Fire crews worked to contain flames, as several apartment buildings are right next to the furniture store. One neighbor said she saw heavy smoke and ran out of her apartment. The tenants of the apartments will be displaced for a few days due to smoke damage and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
"The damage was pretty bad. Everything popping, the flames were high. It was an intense situation and I didn't know if people were inside," resident Amber Szmakowski said.
Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. A daycare connected to the building suffered smoke damage and won't be able to be used for a few days.
No injuries were reported.
