MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Thousands came out for the return of the Milwaukee Lakefront Fireworks. People have waited all day on the 3rd for the event, which didn't happen for two years due to COVID-19.
People like Steven Gaskell said after going to smaller fireworks events the past few years, he wanted his kids to get the full experience this year as fireworks flew into the air from the barge on Lake Michigan.
He said it's a special moment he won't soon forget.
"[The] kids are old enough, they can finally handle the chest-thumping booms from the fireworks, so we thought it was time to introduce them to a real show," said Gaskell.
Members of the Moore family said they always show up early to get the same spot at the lakefront.
They said it's great to be back enjoying barbeque and quality family time, they were also grateful for the weather.
"We’re loving it, we've been missing it, we're very fortunate that it did not forecast to rain this year, because we know that tomorrow it's supposed to rain, this means a lot to us as a family," said Sheena Moore.
