MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's that time of year again! As we enter the holiday season, We Energies is back with their 97th annual Cookie Book.

This year, the book's theme is "From Your Cookie Jar to Ours," and features dozens of recipes from bakers across the state.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, thousands lined up bright and early to fill American Family Field's parking lot for the book giveaway.

"We found that customers were there at 5:30 this morning even though we didn't start until 9!" said spokesperson Amy Jahns. "They are eager for this cookie book, they can't wait to look at all the recipes, to thumb through them and decide what they're going to bake for their holiday platters and give to all their family and friends."

The book has become a Wisconsin tradition dating back to the 1920s.

"This year the book is so special, it's filled with our customer's recipes that they love, that they've been sharing with their families for years and now they're sharing it with us," Jahns said.

Despite the cloudy gray and wet weather, many customers were all smiles as they were handed their book.

"It's a rainy day and we're having fun," said principal training consultant Thomas Ward. "My job in We Energies is pretty much isolated from the public so it's good for me to get out and meet some of our customers."

Some of the recipes are light and fruity while others are rich and chocolatey.

"I'm telling them to eat the cookies in moderation because they're rich," Ward said laughingly. "We don't have any diet cookies in there this year."

If you missed Saturday's giveaway, We Energies will be hosting others in different parts of southeast Wisconsin through the month.
