MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A theatre on UWM's campus heavily damaged by a fire almost a year ago is back open.
A fire ripped through the Mainstage Theatre at UWM's Peck School of the Arts last March. It caused nearly $6 million in damages.
The building was known by many students as a hub of activity and art since 1967. People say that many groups stepped in to help after the fire happened.
"The whole campus and the whole community came together to make everything happen for us. The Rep Theater stepped up to help us put one of our shows on, Arcadia happened at the Rep Theater," said Scott Emmons, Dean of Peck School of the Arts.
No one was injured in the fire. Nearly 200 classes, performances, and exhibitions had to be rescheduled and moved to other places, however.
