CBS 58 HARTLAND, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The building where The INN opened its doors one year ago has a rich history in Hartland. For 120 years, it's welcomed travelers passing through the village. Now, a local family is making a new history for the business.
With exposed cream city brick and English charm, you'll find Matt Armistead in the kitchen Tuesday through Saturday with his evolving menu.
"My husband did a majority of his studying at a restaurant called River Cafe in London and I think that’s where a lot of his inspiration comes from," said Maddie Braaten. "Overall, the influence is Mediterranean."
Although the inspiration in the kitchen in global, the heart of the restaurant is very much local.
Maddie loves the Hartland community and opening The INN has given her the opportunity to meet a lot of the people in the area.
"We love the community aspect of it," said Braaten. "My husband and I fell in love with food and wine, and together we, kind of, share the love of all three of those things, so we knew all of those would really be the heart of the restaurant."
With a year under their belt, the couple is looking forward to welcoming people in for the spring season. With a traditional fish and chips served every Friday through Lent as well as an Easter and Mother's Day brunch in the works.
"That’s really fun and it’s a way for us to showcase our many talents, you could say, in terms of food. And so, our private dining room we take over and just set it up with big buffets," said Braaten.
The INN is open Tuesday through Saturday.
