Temps go on a warming trend overall, but it'll stay cooler near the lake
Happy "cooler near the lake" season! We'll get a healthy dose of this type of weather over the next several days. High pressure is finally pushing back into the region, which has cleared out skies and calmed down the wind. Unfortunately, light winds and sunny skies are the perfect recipe for lake breeze development, so many of us are only in the 40s right now.
Temperatures in general will be on a warming trend over the next week, but all signs point to a wind off the lake at least through Sunday. While inland spots warm well into the 60s and low 70s, low 60s will be more common lakeside.
One big factor as to why we'll keep seeing lake breezes develop is because Lake Michigan's water temperature is chilly right now. After being above normal all winter, the cold and cloudy weather over the last three weeks has prevent water temps from warming up. The average water temperature across Lake Michigan is 39.6°, which is slightly below normal for this time of year.
The overall weather pattern looks like it'll keep warming through a good chunk of next week as well. The six to ten day temperature outlook shows a good chance for above average temps May 8th-12th. By then our average high is 64°.
High pressure will keep many of us dry through the end of the week, but a frontal boundary draped across central WI will touch off a few showers and isolated storms Thursday night into Friday. Current thinking is that these showers will stay north of I-94 and close to the Fox Valley.
