Teachers Leaving Milwaukee Area More Than Anywhere in the State

The Milwaukee area is having trouble holding on to its teachers. A new report shows public school teachers are leaving the Milwaukee area faster than in any other place in the state.

The Public Policy Forum, a non profit, looked into this trend. The group found that over the last five years, Wisconsin lost nearly 2.4% of its teachers, but in the Milwaukee area, it lost 4.6%. In the Milwaukee metro they have a loss of nearly half the teachers in the state.

The non profit says part of the problem is teachers are leaving the field, but the other issue is they don't have enough new teachers looking to join the field.

The Public Policy Forum says districts have also become more competitive about recruiting teachers.
