Suspect questioned after double homicide and amber alert

BERLIN-- An 8-year-old Berlin girl has been found safe after a statewide Amber alert was issued early Sunday morning.

The Green Lake County Sheriff's Office said that the alert was prompted after two people connected to the girl were found dead.

Officials received a 911 call shortly after 11:00pm Saturday that a woman was laying on Broadway Street in the City of Berlin.

When officials arrived they found the woman laying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers entered an apartment at that location and found an adult male who had also been shot.

EMS arrived, but eventually both victims were pronounced dead.

Authorities said that the 8-year-old girl had a family relationship to the residence and since her location could not be determined at the moment an amber alert was sent out.

That alert involved attempting to locate a silver 2001 Dodge Stratus registered to a person of interest in the investigation.

Shortly before 6:00am the girl and the man were found with relatives in Marquette County.

The man is now in custody being questioned by authorities.

The 8-year-old girl was left in the care of her grandparents.

Highway 49 in downtown Berlin is still shut down as authorities continue to investigate at the double homicide scene.
