Suspect in Body Armor Taking Pictures Of Schools in Chicago Suburb Fatally Shot by Police
CHICAGO (CBS CHICAGO) — In a Chicago suburb, Zion police shot and killed a suspect, who was apparently clad in body armor and had been taking photographs of nearby schools, police said Wednesday.
Police shot the suspect after a brief foot chase, according to a news release from the Lake County’s Sheriff’s office.
Preliminary investigation shows officers were dispatched to the area of 22nd Street and Bethesda Boulevard in Zion around 8:30 a.m.
The suspicious person, who police said appeared to be wearing body armor, was located by officers, and a foot pursuit ensued.
A struggle with the offender and officers ensued, and the suspect was shot.
The offender was transported to Vista East Hospital and has since been pronounced deceased.
There are no other suspects at large, police said.
The lock-downs at local schools have been lifted.
